Sending a request to the church.

I wrote a letter for the church that sent me the baptism record on my grandmother, Elizabeth Rivait. I decided to ask for their help in case Anna Raymo/Raymond ever registered information about herself such as her parents - as well as any information on Stephen Rivait too.

Digging up Lawrence Hayes....

Hmm... I'm still not getting anywhere all that much. My latest information is:

1870 - Williston, Chittenden County, Vermont
(neighbor's house)
HAYE, Mary - 18 - Vermont

HAYE, Clarence - 46 - Ireland
HAYE, Mary - 45 - Ireland
HAYE, Thomas - 30 - Vermont
HAYE, Lawrence - 10 - Vermont

1880 - Williston, Chittenden County, Vermont (Broken Image)
HAYES, Lawrence - Abt 1824 - Ireland - HEAD
HAYES, Mary - Abt 1825 - Ireland - Wife
HAYES, Mary - Abt 1854 - Vermont - Daughter
HAYES, Lawrence - Abt 1861 - Vermont - Son

1900 - Williston, Chittenden County, Vermont
HAYES, Lawrence - HEAD - July 1820 - 79 - Ireland - Immigrated 1845
HAYES, Mary - Daughter - October 1853 - 46 - Vermont
HAYES, Margaret E. - Daughter - May 1855 - 45 - Vermont
HAYES, Mabel M. - Granddaughter - May 1899 - 9 - Vermont
HAYES, John W. - Grandson - December 1891 - 8 - Vermont

I keep reporting the 1880 census as broken but Ancestry hasn't done anything about it. I find it interesting that the name was Clarence in the 1870 census. I wonder if that explains why Lawrence wasn't named as Jr.

Lawrence L. Hayes & Jennie Mae Duprey

I'm doing some searching on ancestry.com for more information on Lawrence L. Hayes and Jennie Mae Duprey.

One thing I've noticed is that the Hayes family seems to have stayed in Chittenden County, Vermont for a majority of the time.

I'm trying to figure out if James Edward Hayes was counted twice in the 1920 census.

1920 - Williston, Chittenden County, Vermont
dated: January 7, 8, 9, 1920

HAYS, Margaret E. - HEAD - 64
HAYS, James - Nephew - 17

1920 - Shelburne, Chittenden County, Vermont
dated: February 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 11, 1920

HAYES, Lawrence L. - HEAD - 60
HAYES, Jennie M. - Wife - 44
HAYES, John W. - Son - 28
HAYES, Thomas L. - Son - 24
HAYES, William R. - Son - 20
HAYES, James E. - Son - 18
HAYES, Stephen R. - Son - 15 -
HAYES, Ruth M. - Daughter - 10 -
CILBRITH, Ethel M. - Granddaughter - 1 6/12
COCKLE, Charles - Uncle - 66

I'm thinking James moved back into his parents' home after January's census but before February's census. I'll have to scrape together the censuses that shows how Margaret is sister to Lawrence.

Charles E. Patino/Patenaude

I'm not sure if Patino/Patenaude is a possibly family name yet.

I keep looking at the 1900 census on Does anyone know Anna Raymo? and I can't help but wonder... There's a very real chance that this Charles Patino is one of my grandfathers further in the line.

It means that Anna Raymo's mother was a Patino. Problem is, I can't find out who Charles Patino's children were. There was a woman posting information she had about one of Charles' children - Frank - but that's all I have to go on. I tried looking up censuses but I'm sure the others are in Canada and I have no way of verifying anything from Canada.

I am ready to believe that this Anna Raymo on the 1900 census is my great grandmother because of how it lists her father as born in France.

Two more requests...

I made out two more requests today. One for Linda Derouchie's death certificate - in hopes of trying to find out where she is buried. The other is for a marriage certificate of my paternal grandparents, Robert Smith & Elizabeth Rivait.

Elizabeth Marie Rivait - Score!

It turns out St Peter's Church in Vergennes, Vermont had a record!

-----

CERTIFICATE OF BAPTISM

This is to certify that Elizabeth Marie, Child of Stephen Rivet and Rose Anna Raymond, born in Vergennes, Vt on the 7th day of May 1917 was baptized on the 3rd day of June 1917.

-----

That's interesting to find about Anna Raymo though... Everyone referred to her as Anna and I assumed it was her nickname for Rosanna but if her name really was Rose Anna... Hmm...

Place of Birth: Chittenden - Burlington

City or Town: South Burlington
Sex: Female

Father: LIVING - Age 19
Mother: Thelma Ruth Hayes - Age 19

Frank Raymo/Raymond & Emma Pecott(?)

I think I may be able to safely assume that Rosanna "Anna" Raymo's father *is* Frank but her mother isn't Emma Pecott...

My father and my aunt both have said they knew Clifford, Russell, Charlie... Though the girl names aren't ringing any bells.

I have two censuses:

1900 Census: Addison, Addison County, Vermont
Raymond, Frank: Head - Male - May 1862 - 38 - 5 years married - born: France - immigrated 1883
Raymond, Emma: Wife - Female - May 1867 - 33 - 5 years married - born: New York
Raymond, Caroline: Daughter - Female - June 1896 - 3 - born: Vermont
Raymond, Edward S.: Son - Male - September 1898 - 1 - born: Vermont
Brooska, Clara S.: Niece - Female - November 1886 - 13

Now, what confuses me in this 1900 census is that it says that Emma has had only two children. Both are listed in the census. Anna Raymo was born in December of 1885.

My father sat in front of the computer at Ancestry.com and after just ten minutes or so, he managed to find this 1910 census! Eesh.

1910 Census: New Haven, Addison County, Vermont
Ramo, Frank: Head - Male - 55 - SECOND MARRIAGE - 15 years married - born: France - immigrated 1889
Ramo, Emma: Wife - Female - 45 - First Marriage - 15 years married - born: New York
Ramo, Caroline: Daughter - Female - 14 - born: Vermont
Ramo, Edward: Son - Male - 11 - born: Vermont
Ramo, Charles: Son - Male - 9 - born: Vermont
Ramo, Clifford: Son - Male - 7 - born: Vermont
Ramo, Howard: Son - Male - 6 - born: Vermont
Ramo, Russell: Son - Male - 4 - born: Vermont

I'm convinced now that Anna's mother is someone else, from Frank's first marriage. Still doing some more digging.

EDIT: Not sure how to find Anna's mother. Anna was born in 1885 and would've shown up in the 1890 census but that burned.. and 1900, Frank had already moved on to his next family. The marriage years seem consistent so it is safe to say they married in 1895. Something happened after 1885 and before 1895.

According to the one member's tree, the unaccounted name left is Phoebe. No dates available for her either.

Elizabeth Rivait - Anna Raymo

Called the church for Elizabeth Marie Rivait's baptism record. Left our name and address and they said they'll research and send us anything if they find her information.

In 2006, We found a town clerk that found Anna Raymo's birth information that stated that her father's name was Francis Raymond and he came from France.

There is a tree on Ancestry.com where someone stated that Anna's parents are Frank Raymond and Emma Pecott. I contacted her but never got a response - I imagine she's not around or anything.

Having mentioned that, We called around in hopes of finding that Town clerk to ask for a copy. We called the Addison Town Clerk and she said she did not have a Rosanna/Anna Raymo but she found an Elsie (b: 7/11/1900) and a Clifford (4/14/1902) who both had parents named Frank Raymond (from France) and Emma ??? (from New York). These could very well be siblings of Anna Raymo.

James Edward Hayes & Dorothy Wood: Marriage Certificate

I received two things in the mail today.

1. I'm so excited! They sent me the Groom information on James Edward Hayes & Dorothy Wood's marriage certificate.

Name of Groom: James Edward Hayes
Name of Bride: Dorothy Ruth Wood
Residence of Groom: Milton
Date of Marriage: September 25, 1928

No. of Marriage: /

Place of Birth: South Burlington
Father's Name: Lawrence Hayes

I'm excited! This verifies that the James E. Hayes buried at St. Catherine's is the same one who married my great grandmother! I'm so glad I finally have a document that links everything together! Woohoo!!!

2. Received a "No Record" on my grandmother, Elizabeth Marie Rivait when I requested for her birth certificate.

Elizabeth Rivait

That was disappointing.

Birth Certificate - Robert Wilbur Smith

I received my paternal grandfather's birth certificate today!

Robert W. Smith's parents:
Wilbur E. Smith - born in Addison, Vermont
Anna McEvila - born in Addison, Vermont

Now all I have to do is wait for Elizabeth Rivait's to come but that may take a very long time because it was a request to the state instead of sending it off to a local town clerk.

I've been told that a lot of town clerks can only give out certified copies so sending out ten bucks a pop gets expensive.

James Edward Hayes - Trying to find his parents

Referring to my post before this one:
Have you ever found a possible link between one person and their parents but no matter how much info you dig up, you're not quite sure whether or not you should go ahead and link them together?

Another example! Get ready for this one.. It's a doozy. Some of you know, I've been tirelessly researching James Edward Hayes. Some of my friends wonder why I just won't go ahead and link because there's a few too-coincidental clues that would make the link.

My Great Uncles told me that he was born in South Burlington - My grandmother's, Thelma Ruth Hayes, birth certificate verifies this. I found a 1910 census that takes place in South Burlington with an 8 year old James E. Hayes. A tombstone at St. Catherine's Cemetery has his dates. This matches my Great Uncles's saying that he died in the early 50s. So why won't I make the link? I feel like I want more proof. I guess I'm just too uptight that way.

I did some research in order to try to find a link..

Tombstone at St. Catherine's Cemetery

Lawrence L.: 1859 - 1943
Jennie May Duprey: 1862 - 1927

Children:
John W.: b. 1892?
Lawrence L. Jr.: b. 1894?
Thomas Leo: b. 1896? - Married Mildred?
Ellen E.: b. 1898? - Married George M. Cilbrith
William R.: b. 1900? - Married Harriet M.?
James E.: 1901 - 1953
Stephen Roy: 1902 - 1920
Ruth Mae: 1909 - 1927

Grandchildren:
Ethel M. Cilbrith: 1918 - 1927

Parents of Lawrence L.:
Lawrence: b. 1820? - Ireland
Mary: b. ? - Ireland

Children:
Mary: b. 1853?
Margaret E.: b: 1855?
Lawrence: 1859 - 1943

Grandchildren:
Mabel M.: b. 1890? <-- no idea who she belongs to.

1910 - Mary (1853?) was head of household and took care of John W (nephew), Mabel M. Brown (niece), Mabel's husband Frank Brown (1886?), and child, Dorothy F. Brown (1910?).

1920 - January - Margaret E Hayes (1856?) had her nephew, James E (1901), living with her.

1920 - February - James E. Hayes was counted with his family. He may have moved in with them between the census-taking of the areas.

1930 - Mabel Brown was with her daughter, Rita M. (1921?) and taking care of her aunt, Margaret E.

I noticed a Charles Cockle (1854?) was listed as uncle of Lawrence (1859 - 1943) in one census. I'm not sure how that fits. Lawrence's parents are from Ireland. In the censuses I found of Charles Cockle, he was born in Vermont, his father was born in Vermont and his mother was born in New Hampshire.

I am guessing that he was really an Uncle-in-law and may have really been the uncle of Jennie Mae Duprey.

Charles Cockle:
1900 census: Charles is with wife, Abbie L., and daughters Luria J. and Flora B.
1910 census: Charles is with with, Abbie L., and daughter, Flora B.
1920 census: Charles is with Lawrence, listed as Uncle in relation.
1930 census: Charles is with Flora B., listed as Father-in-law.

Flora B. married Arthur G. Smith (1877?) and had a son, Robert F. Smith (1918?). I have no idea who Arthur's parents are. Too many Smith's running around.

I'm still struggling to get James E. Hayes' birth certificate. It seems that the records are being split between Burlington and South Burlington yet no one seems to have any records? Hm...

Stephen Joseph Rivait - Trying to find his parents

Have you ever found a possible link between one person and their parents but no matter how much info you dig up, you're not quite sure whether or not you should go ahead and link them together?

I've been researching Elizabeth Rivait's parents, Stephen Joseph Rivait and Anna Raymo (Raymond?).

I *think* there's a good possibility that Stephen's parents are Julius and Josephine Rivait. I found a census with a four year old Stephen along with various siblings (matches the year he was born). I researched the parents and siblings as much as I could but I never could find a link at all.

The only link that could even come closer is the fact that Stephen Rivait and Julius Rivait/Josephine are buried in the same cemetery.

My notes are as follows:

( Saint Peter's Cemetery - Vergennes, Addison County, Vermont )

Julius Rivait: 1841 - 1919
Josephine ?????: 1844 - 1892

Children:

Emma: b. 1866?
Mina: 1869 - 1957
Malvina: 1871 - 1959
Nealey: 1874 - 1942
Stephen: b. 1876?

Emma seems to have "disappeared" - in other words, no idea who she married.

Malvina ( Also buried in St. Peter's Cemetery ) married a Frederick(?) Pruniere.

Children:
Jules (Julius?) Frederick: (1896 - 1958)
Thelma J.: b. 1898?

Thelma J. married a Charles Flint (b. 1894?)

Malvina, according to censuses, took care of both Mina and Nealy for quite a long time. In one census, Nealey was named as Cornelius. I think it's safe to say that Mina and Nealey never married and never had kids.

WWI Registration Card for Nealy Rivett, it is noted on the back that he is "Obviously Disqualified (Feeble-Minded)" - Stephen is noted as the person 'who knows where the registrant is at all times'.

Malvina seems to have been a big time caretaker. She took care of her siblings and children longer than she should have. I really am curious as to where Emma took off to.

I'm pretty sure I could sit down and say, "They *are* related. Too much of a coincidence." but I really want documents and proof to say that they are related.

My plan is, if the state can find Elizabeth Rivait's birth certificate and it states where her parents are born, I will then call the place where Stephen J Rivait was born... and hope that they do have a copy to verify who his parents are.

Birth Certificates - Thelma Hayes and LIVING Derouchie

My maternal grandparents' birth certificates arrived in the mail - his yesterday and hers today. It's pretty neat to have their birth certificates. The information on them is quite interesting!

LIVING Derouchie's parents:
Alex Louis Derouchie - born in Canada
Katharine Sophrona Abare - born in Shelburne, Chittenden County, Vermont

Thelma Ruth Hayes' parents:
James Edward Hayes - born in South Burlington, Chittenden County, Vermont
