Frederick Charles Whalon/Frederick C. Lovely

My aunt on my father's side is struggling to learn more about her father.

My grandmother is Elizabeth Marie Rivait. Before she married Robert Wilbur Smith, she had been previously married to a Frederick Charles Whalon/Lovely (I have no idea what number marriage this is for her.).

Frederick died in 1944. In fact, he died a couple months before my aunt was born. When her mother was dying and in the hospital, her mother refused to tell her about who her father was. There's rumors going around as to who the true father is.

One of the information was that her father was Frederick Charles Whalon but that he has used the surname Lovely too. I don't understand how that fits in. I've seen address books dated in 1942 where Frederick and Elizabeth Whalon were listed. Frederick also had a trucking business where he carted away garbage.

My aunt sent us a copy of her birth certificate. It listed her father as Frederick Lovely.

I did searches on ancestry.com. I found Frederick Whalon in a couple censuses where the dates match. I did not find any Lovely's.

Monday, I sent away a request to the state for a marriage certificate for Frederick Whalon/Lovely and Elizabeth Rivait.

Mail has arrived!

I was beginning to think that I'd be receiving two "No Record Found!" today but thankfully, my two requests to the state of Vermont has both been good.

Wow... Just six days before Christmas. That had to have been the worst Christmas for my grandparents. I wonder if my grandmother always thought about Linda every Christmas.

McEvila and Greenwood

Ancestry apparently charged for another month. I didn't think that would happen. Ooops. I decided to take another look at the tree and I decided to look around the McEvila and Greenwood on my father's side.

My Great Great Grandparents are James McEvila and Charlotte Greenwood.

Charlotte Greenwood's parents are James Greenwood and Anne ??????.

I suspect that Charles and Thomas are the names of the same person because of the ages. I have no idea if he is the son of James and Ann.

As for the female baby in the 1860 census, I suspect she must've died for she doesn't show in the next census.

I did look up both Charles and Thomas but I can't seem to figure out who to follow. There's a few that look like easy candidates for it but who knows. I can't follow Elizabeth because there's no telling who she married before 1900.

I can't find an 1880 census for James, Ann, or Elizabeth.

Could Ann have lied about her age or maybe the census taker jotted down the wrong age? Is it possible the E. in daughter Ann stands for Elizabeth? It's something to think about.

I keep reporting the 1880 census as broken but Ancestry hasn't done anything about it. I find it interesting that the name was Clarence in the 1870 census. I wonder if that explains why Lawrence wasn't named as Jr.

Lawrence L. Hayes & Jennie Mae Duprey

I'm doing some searching on ancestry.com for more information on Lawrence L. Hayes and Jennie Mae Duprey.

One thing I've noticed is that the Hayes family seems to have stayed in Chittenden County, Vermont for a majority of the time.

I'm trying to figure out if James Edward Hayes was counted twice in the 1920 census.
