Renewed Ancestry Subscription

Decided to renew subscription to Ancestry for a month today to see if there's any new information that has been contributed since I last used the site last year.

Linda Derouchie

I made out another request that'll be sent out tomorrow. This time for a birth certificate of Linda Derouchie who died a few months old back in 1949 or 1950. My mother has been calling around to see if anyone remembers her. Her father doesn't recall much except he knew the name of a funeral home, Lavigne Funeral Home in Winooski, Vermont. She was also supposedly buried in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Burlington, Vermont.

She then called her aunt and she remembered. She must've been around eight or so... She said she remembers everyone crying and there was a little white casket. There's some speculation going on. It might've been crib death but there's something about how the poor baby may have been accidentally smothered to death when they slept in bed that night. I'm not really sure.

Some of us suspect that Linda may not have her own tombstone. There's a possibility that a wooden cross was set up for her... or perhaps an obscure marker... and no one ever went back to give her a proper tombstone. I think if we find her and it is true that she doesn't have anything, my parents may buy one for her.

Rivait/Raymo - No Record

I finally received a response today.

Rivait/Raymo Marriage Record Request

They were unable to find a marriage certificate for Stephen Joseph Rivait and Anna Raymo. On the back of the paper, I added quite a bit of information such as Anna being a nickname for Rosanna, etc. I wrote down some census information and whatnot.

This is disappointing. Now I have to try to find some other way to figure out who their parents are.

Contacting the Church for Elizabeth Rivait

Just recently got some information from a relative who is a... daughter of a child of Lillian Rivait. I believe something about a town that had burned down so the relative had to contact a church in Weybridge, Vermont where Lillian G. Rivait was born and baptised. They got the baptism record from the church there.

There's a possibility that Elizabeth Rivait was also born there and maybe baptized there as well. Will have to call the church and find out. If this is true, that means I wasted ten dollars in trying to get a birth certificate for her on Monday. Oops.

Mailing out request for Birth and Marriage certificates

Made up two envelopes today to be mailed out tomorrow. One is a request for a marriage certificate for James Edward Hayes and Dorothy Wood. Hopefully there's a record of it floating around in Vermont somewhere.

The other is a request for a birth certificate of Elizabeth Marie Rivait. No telling how long it'll take to hear from them, I'm sure.

Still waiting to hear back about the request for marriage certificate on Rivait/Raymo that was mailed on the 9th.

Birth Certificates

Called a handful of town clerks in Vermont yesterday. Managed to track down birth certificates of my paternal grandfather, Smith, and my maternal grandparents, LIVING Derouchie and Hayes. I tried Vergennes, Addison, and Waltham to try to find a birth certificate for my paternal grandmother, Elizabeth Rivait, but no go.

The town clerks gave me information so I sent out three envelopes today to get copies of birth certificates. May have to go another route to try to find my paternal grandmother's bc.

Possible find on James E. Hayes!

I created this page ( James Edward Hayes of South Burlington, Vermont ) in hopes of some relative of James would discover it and say, "Those fit information on mine!" but no one ever did.

I did some lazy searching at findagrave.com when I discovered a tombstone submitted for Lawrence L. Hayes. I looked over the tombstone and to my shock and wonder, I discovered "James E." at the very bottom.. born 1901 and died 1953! This fits information that my great uncles told us as well as various censuses I found.

I contacted Barb Destromp to let her know that she overlooked James E. at the bottom. - I just wanna take this moment to say that she is a phenomenal woman! I don't know how she has the time to submit all those tombstones. Whew!

I guess at this stage, I am going to try to contact the cemetery to see if they have information on James E. I may even send off a request for a marriage certificate for James now that I know where he's buried. I'm willing to bet all my money that he is the same one.

Marriage Certificates

I posted two marriage certificates that my Great Uncle sent to me.

Emery George Abare & Ida LaForce
Alex Derouchie & Katharine Abare

I have sent away a request (along with $10) for a copy of a marriage certificate for Stephen Joseph Rivait and Rosanna "Anna" Raymo. I really really hope they have it. It'd be nice to break down some walls and find out who their parents are.
